Key Stage 1 information - Year 1 and Year 2
In Year 1 and 2, we build on the children's learning from Reception. Every day there are lessons in reading, writing, phonics and maths and these are carried out in groups. Such groupings do change depending on how the children have retained their previous learning in this area, friendships and the learning focus. Sometimes these groups are organised on ability and sometimes they are deliberately organised as mixed ability groups, depending on the teaching and learning objectives for the session.
In the mornings, your child will usually be working in a group of about 6-8 children and will work with the teacher or teaching assistant to complete work that has been carefully differentiated. Your child will also complete independent tasks and be given the opportunity to access the learning areas in their classroom which provide further opportunities for learning independently across the curriculum, whilst other children are working in focused groups with the teaching staff.
We study the National Curriculum and have attached the Year 1 and Year 2 parent information meeting powerpoint to give you further information about each year group.
